This might just be an excellent day to throw it all away.
I’ve written about Dumpster Day before and I think it bears repeating: every now an then, at least once a year, you need to clear the decks, get rid of everything that’s not needed, and reset all of your systems, lists, and plans.
I’ll be using today to step back from the computer and to empty the two drawers on my desk, to review client files, and to pick up everything that’s not nailed down and put it all in my inbox. Then I’ll process everything out. I’m betting a lot of it will end up in the dumpster (or recycling bin, when appropriate). As I look around my office right now I can see I have a few hours of sorting, but I’m looking forward to it. Oh, and don’t forget to do the same thing for your computer desktop and your email inbox. Be ruthless.
When I’m done my office will be clean and organized. And I’ll be ready for action.
I’ve conducted Dumpster Days for entire companies. It can be very effective if you get in to the spirit of it. Some people may set a goal of losing 50 pounds in the next year. You might be able to do it in one morning with your Dumpster Day observance. Things, stuff, can weigh you down. So let’s get rid of everything we don’t need.
Happy Dumpster Day!
