There are a few days, just a few, scattered across the year, when people in offices and working at home are required to be on the job or feel as if they should be working, but there’s really very little that can be done.
When that happens, as it very well might today, declare that moment a “dumpster day.”
Clear the decks. Make a clean sweep. Recycle, reduce, and remove whatever you can. There are very few things that can make me feel more energized and ready to begin a new project the way that a dumpster day can.
Try it! Be ruthless. Treat your own accumulated stuff the way a total stranger might if asked to clean and organize your space. Ask yourself: Is this needed? Does this belong here?
And then act. Free yourself for the new and unexpected.
