Almost No Carb, Tasty Snack: Mocha Frappuccino My Way

by Randy Murray on January 20, 2011

I’m trying to be good about eating in this new year (I certainly wasn’t for the past few months). So I’m watching the extra sugar and trying to stay away from carbohydrates. That’s not so tough, but some days, especially in the middle of the afternoon or around 9 P.M., it does get a little difficult.

Here’s my recipe for a tasty, low carb, no extra sugar snack that isn’t gone in a single bite.

Mocha Frappuccino

This makes two servings. You’ll need a blender that can thoroughly crush ice.

  • 1 cup coffee  - cold. Use decaf if it’s after 5 P.M.
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 2 packages of non-sugar sweetener, your choice
  • 4 tablespoons of heavy cream
  • 2 scoops chocolate flavored protein powder. I’m currently using the Jay Robb Whey Protein version.

Put it all in the blender, let it grind away for 20-30 seconds or until you have a consistency that is still icy, but you can suck through a straw.

Serve in glasses, with straws. Top with whipped cream if you like – just make it yourself by whipping some heavy cream with a little non-sugar sweetner.

Not much. Only about a gram of carbs from the protein powder and probably another 1 from the heavy cream. None from the coffee, ice, or sweetener.

If you want to up the carbs, add a half banana. That makes it thicker and extra tasty!
