Thank You

by Randy Murray on November 26, 2009

Thank you, readers. I’m grateful for this past year and the new work I’ve begun. It’s a true blessing to be able to “follow one’s bliss.” I do not take that for granted.

Here’s a secret that the gurus won’t tell you: everyone doesn’t get to follow their bliss. Most of us, in fact, do not and cannot. We must do what needs to be done to survive. That often means taking directions in life we wouldn’t if we were trying for that great simplicity and clarity of purpose. For most, our bliss is not, well, revenue generating, to say the least. And so we pursue jobs and lives that are in the best alignment we can manage to what truly makes us happy.

Here’s the other secret they won’t tell you or don’t understand: bliss is only momentary. What you really want is a life where you can have those blissful moments, but with the rest of your moments you experience the seasons, and, all in all, you try for a life that lets you be happy as often as you can.

For me, now at the middle of my life, I feel supremely lucky to be fully on that path. And it comes with the humble recognition that it is only a fortunate few who have this opportunity. So I thank you once again and hope you have many things to be thankful for this season as well.
